About the Founder
Meet Michael Colin Pope — the human behind Bob.
Michael Colin Pope · Founder
Ask Bob was built by someone who believes AI should feel useful, practical, and human — not confusing, cold, or out of reach.
Michael created Bob to help businesses answer questions, capture opportunities, organize conversations, and show up for customers even when the team is busy, closed, overloaded, or out in the field.
Bob's personality may be friendly, but the reason behind Bob is serious: every missed question can become a missed customer, a missed booking, a missed sale, or a missed chance to build trust.
Why Bob exists
Michael has lived through the kind of customer moments Bob was built to support.
He entered finance in March 2000, answering customer service calls just as the dot-com bubble began to burst. That meant real people, real anxiety, real money, and real urgency on the other end of the phone.
It was an early lesson that never left him: when someone reaches out, the response matters. A good answer can calm confusion. A fast follow-up can save an opportunity. A clear explanation can build trust. A missed message can cost more than anyone realizes.
Ask Bob was built from that understanding.
A builder before a founder
Before finance, Michael started out as a mechanic. That gave him a systems mindset: listen for the problem, trace the failure, understand the parts, fix the cause, and make sure the whole thing works again.
That mindset followed him into software. For roughly 20 years, Michael has built websites, applications, and digital systems. He has worked with businesses that needed more than pretty pages. They needed tools that explained, captured, routed, answered, organized, and helped customers take the next step.
Bob is a continuation of that work — not just a chatbot, not just a widget, not just a novelty. Bob is designed to become a practical layer between a business and the daily flood of customer questions, leads, requests, and follow-ups.
Built with real work in mind
Michael also spent years doing hands-on trades and handyman work — repair, maintenance, construction, practical problem-solving, and the kind of field work where your hands are full and the phone still keeps ringing.
Ask Bob was not imagined only from behind a desk. It was shaped by the reality of busy businesses: contractors on job sites, service teams between appointments, owners wearing five hats, and customers who still expect a quick answer.
Bob exists for that gap — the space between doing the work and managing the front office; between a customer question and a captured opportunity; between “I meant to follow up” and “we lost the lead.”
Costa Rica, sustainability, and systems that live
In 2012, Michael moved to Costa Rica, where nature, jungle life, bamboo, ecological materials, and permaculture became a major part of his story.
He started Materiales Ambientales Ecológicos, a bamboo treatment mill, and spent years close to land, sustainability, and resilient natural systems.
That experience helped shape the way he thinks about technology. The best systems are not the loudest or flashiest. They are the ones that support life around them. They reduce friction. They help people keep moving. They adapt to the environment they serve. That is the spirit behind Bob — friendly enough to talk to, structured enough to be useful, smart enough to learn, practical enough to help.

What Michael wants Bob to be
Michael is building Bob to be the kind of AI teammate a business owner can actually understand and trust.
Bob should help answer common questions, capture leads cleanly, organize conversations, learn from approved business knowledge, help customers feel heard instead of ignored, and give owners more visibility — not less control.
The point is not to replace the human heart of a business. The point is to protect it.
Founder promise
Ask Bob is founder-led because the details matter — the words, the handoff, the memory, the customer experience, and the owner’s trust.
Keep building Bob as practical AI for real businesses — friendly on the surface, serious underneath, always focused on helping people get to the next right answer.
